In 1971, while I was still in college, I read Philip Jose Farmer's “To Your Scattered Bodies Go”. The first omnibus, called simply Riverworld collects the first two of these classics - To Your Scattered Bodies Go and The Fabulous Riverboat. Better yet, what if everyone in all of history THE FABULOUS RIVERBOAT by Philip José Farmer — Also from 1971, the second book in this series switches things up in a big way. TO YOUR SCATTERED BODIES GO by Philip José Farmer — What would happen if all of sudden, you awoke naked and hairless in a place you have never known? The story is set about two decades after The The Fabulous Riverboat could be read and understood alone without reading To Your Scattered Bodies Go, but I would not recommend it because of the unfolding story arc that is developing. More important though, more is revealed about the nature of the Riverworld and it's creators, developing the story arc that I assume ties the four main novels in this series together.
